  1. This and the next blog will showcase the development of a painting that is commissioned. Only the 2 layers weren't photographed. some commissions are very straightforward.I usually have a series of questions that help me figure out where I will go emotively with the work. This commission had a bunch of have tos which I'll include in the next comment.

  4. THIS IS THE FIRST PART OF WHAT WAS ASKED BY THE CLIENT."I was thinking about a portrait mixed with a memorial for S. W is a little poodle like thing that has been with S through the deaths of both her mom and her dad. W was a found-by at B VCA.,. He was hit by a car and was pretty beat up. S took him under her wing and ultimately adopted him. W is a tough little dog who doesn't know his size and is very protective of S. He's generally disheveled in appearance. W, for all of his barking at shadows and noises in the middle of the night, is quite timid. He likes to be reassured by his people that he's loved and secure. S& W have been there when both of them have needed each other the most."

    AND
"S's parents, as you know, have both passed away. S's mom was fond of Angels, especially towards the end of her life. S's dad was a free spirit and a die hard fan of blue grass -- he always wore a belt with a banjo buckle. I was hoping to incorporate these two elements (an angel and a tarnish brass banjo belt buckle) with elements of our relationship. The clementine (yes the citrus fruit) and the "ring pop" are of sentimental importance to the two of us. I was hoping to have these elements also included somehow within the portrait/memorial. Somehow representing all of these important elements without it being obvious on first glance."

    AND

I would be open to anything... like the belt buckle banjo (imagine dirty, tarnished brass) could be on a dog collar... or there could be the faintest suggestion of a halo around Wy's head. The orange color of the clementine could be a background color. The ring pop.... now that I see as being tricky. I think I'll be thrilled with anything."
